In addition to the base and derived classes supplied with Operations Sentinel, you can create additional classes. The new class can be based on any of the existing base classes or derived classes. You can create a new class by either using a wizard or by copying one of the existing classes.
Note: Only a site that has installed Department Edition or Enterprise Edition can define managed classes and properties.
To create a new class
In Administration mode, click Managed Objects.
Click New Class on the File menu. The New Managed Class Wizard appears.
Follow the steps in the wizard to create the new managed class. When complete, the new class appears in the Object Class column in the display pane and under the Managed Objects node in the navigation pane.
Enter or modify properties in the details pane that did not appear in the wizard. The new derived class includes the same properties as the class on which it was based. See Managed Class Properties for detailed information on configuring the properties of the managed object.
(Optional) Add any user-defined properties to the site-defined class. See Working with User Properties for detailed information on adding user-defined properties.
If applicable, modify any of the security settings for this site-defined class. See Specifying Permissions for a Class for more information.
Save your changes.
If applicable, enter or modify any of the thresholds for the site-defined class. See Specifying Thresholds for detailed information on viewing or modifying the thresholds.
Save your changes.
To copy an existing managed class
To create a new managed class, you can also copy and then modify the properties, thresholds, and security of an existing managed class. Using an existing managed class to create a new one could save you time by eliminating the need to reenter similar data.
