About System Resource Report

Operations Sentinel Console enables you to generate a System Resource report for Windows, UNIX\Linux, OS 2200, and MCP systems. The System Resource report provides details of various resources of the system. The details of resources of the system are represented in the form of a bar chart. You can refresh, open, save, and delete the report. Following are the tasks that you can perform with respect to generating a System Resource report:

Notes:

  • You can generate System Resource Report only after installing Operations Sentinel 14.0 WRM (Windows)or ULRM (Unix/Linux) or later versions.

  • The Agent Version property of the Windows or Unix/Linux system should not be blank. If it is blank, you have to restart the agent installed on the system to get the agent version.

Details of a System Resource Report

Each bar graph in the System Resource report represents the resource details of a system, for example CPU Utilization of a Windows system. The name of the resource is displayed as the title of the bar graph. The system name is displayed below the title of the bar graph. The text “Data Received” or “No data received” is displayed below the system name. “Data Received” indicates that the report was able to get the resource details of the system; “No data received” indicates that no resource details was obtained due to the system getting disconnected. The resource value is plotted on the y-axis and the time is plotted on the x-axis in 24-hour format. If the name of the parameter plotted on the x-axis or y-axis appears truncated, hover the mouse over the x-axis or y-axis line to know the complete parameter name. The time that is plotted on the x-axis refers to the Operations Sentinel server time. You can use the horizontal scroll bar to scroll through the x-axis. The bar graphs in the System Resource report can plot and display up to 24 hours of data. You can edit and change the maximum value of a resource by using the following steps:

  1. In the system Resource report, click Maximum Values on the Edit menu.

The Operations Sentinel : System Report - Set Maximum Values dialog box appears.

  2. Edit the maximum values of the resource in the text boxes provided beside resources of the system.

  3. Click OK.

Note: If the value of any resource exceeds its current maximum value, then edit and change the maximum value of the resource to a larger value to display an accurate System Resource report. The current value of each resource can be determined by hovering the cursor over the column of that resource in the System Resource report graph.

The threshold value is displayed on the top-left corner of the bar graph. You can set this value by changing the thresholds of resources for MCP and OS 2200 systems from the Operation Sentinel Console and by distributing resource policies to Windows and UNIX/Linux systems. The threshold value should be set before launching the System Resource report. If the current value of the resource satisfies the threshold condition, the bar is red. By default, the threshold title is “Threshold”. If you set the threshold value for the resource, the title of threshold becomes “*Threshold”. To set the default threshold, disable the distributed resource monitor policy. To view the bar graph details of other resource, click the resource button on the left pane of the System Resource report. Refer to Specifying a Threshold Condition for more information on thresholds of resources for MCP and OS 2200 systems. Refer to Creating Resource Monitor Policies for more information on thresholds of resources for Windows and UNIX/Linux systems.

Note: The threshold value for Virtual Memory of Windows systems and Swap resources of UNIX/Linux systems is not configurable and the default value of the threshold is 90.

The refresh interval for displaying the System Resource report bar graph is set to 1 minute by default and the timer running is displayed on the top-right corner of the report. At the refresh interval, the system report gets the latest data. To change the refresh interval of a System Resource report, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Refresh Interval on the Edit menu of the System Resource report.

The Operations Sentinel: System Report - Refresh Interval dialog box appears.

  2. In the Operations Sentinel: System Report - Refresh Interval dialog box, enter the new refresh interval in terms of minutes in the New Refresh Interval box, and click OK.

The refresh interval for displaying the System Resource report bar graph is set to the specified new time interval.

Notes:

  • The maximum value that can be set as refresh interval is 1440.

  • You can change the refresh time interval according to the sampling time of the MCP Agent/WRM/ULRM. However, the refresh interval does not depend on the sampling time of the MCP Agent/WRM/ULRM.

  • If there is no data received for a particular refresh interval, the time interval is plotted on the x-axis as *<time>.

Saving a Report

To save the System Resource report as an image

  1. Click Save As Image on the File menu of the System Resource report.

The Save As dialog box appears.

  2. In the Save As dialog box, enter a file name in the File name field, and click Save.

The System Resource report is saved.

The default directory path where the report is saved is the system report folder of the respective class of the system. The default name of the image is in the format

Image <number>__< system name on which System Report is running >_<system type>_<date>_<time>.jpeg

The Operations Sentinel : System Report – Message dialog box appears after few seconds with the message “Image saved successfully.”

Notes:

  • To open a System Resource report, navigate to the location where you have saved your System Resource report, and double-click the JPEG file of the System Resource report or right-click and open that JPEG file.

  • To delete a System Resource report, navigate to the location where you have saved your report, and right-click and click Delete to delete the JPEG file of that System Resource report.

Each time you launch the System Resource Report, the latest system status information appears. You can generate the System Resource report for many systems simultaneously.
