The SYNTAX option causes MAKEUSER operations to be performed without affecting the USERDATAFILE. If the value of the SYNTAX option is TRUE, MAKEUSER processes input without changing the *SYSTEM/USERDATAFILE. The LIST option or the DEBUG option output indicates entries as they would have been added or modified. The SYNTAX option can be TRUE or FALSE; however, SYNTAX is implicitly TRUE if any errors are detected, unless the IGNORE option is also TRUE. The SYNTAX option does not affect the operation of RECALL.
