Packaging Information

Some MCP TapeStack utility functions are included as part of the Integrated Operating Environment (IOE); other functions are separately packaged and keyed. See your Unisys representative for additional packaging information.

The following functions of the MCP TapeStack utility are included in the IOE:

Explanation

<digit>

Any one of the decimal digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

<EBCDIC character other than quotation mark>

Any EBCDIC character for which the hexadecimal code is greater than or equal to 4”40” and that is not the EBCDIC character quotation mark (“).

<letter>

Any one of the uppercase or lowercase alphanumeric characters from A through Z inclusive.

<file title>

A fully specified file title, including usercode, family, and ending period. An example in this context would be OUTFILE = (USER)OUTPUT/FILE ON PACK.

<unit#>

The unit number (MT number) of the tape drive. The optional asterisk (*) following a unit number of an input tape causes the utility to continuously read new tapes from this drive, as they are mounted on the drive, until an NF (No File) or FR (Final Reel) command is issued. This is intended for use with autoloaders.

When the asterisk (*) is specified, an NF command causes the utility to stop reading that particular drive and continue with additional input tapes, if specified. An FR command causes the utility to stop reading all input tapes, regardless of how many remain to be processed, to write the directory, and to close the stacked output tape.

<comment>

If specified, the string in parentheses becomes a comment record for the previously specified tape to be stacked. The comment is stored in the directory and is displayed by the directory function. The comment must be no longer than 20 characters in length; comments longer than 20 characters are truncated to 20 characters. Comments are useful for identifying unlabelled tapes, because unlabelled tapes do not have serial numbers. Note that comments are not supported in the case of a serial number range, only for individually specified tapes.

<ser#>

The serial number of the tape optionally surrounded by quotation marks.

<ser# range>

A range of serial numbers that are either all numeric, or numeric on the right-hand side of the serial number. Quotation marks are not used in the specification of serial number ranges. Valid serial number range clauses are

SERIALNO= ABC550-ABC568
SERIALNO= WXYZ98-WXYZ02

This last syntax specifies the tapes with the following serial numbers, in the following order: WXYZ98, WXYZ99, WXYZ00, WXYZ01, and WXYZ02.

AS

The parameter following the optional AS clause specifies the serial number to which the virtual tape volume being unstacked is assigned by using the SN system command. If the AS clause is not specified, the operation retains the serial number that is already on the tape to which you are unstacking. This clause is ignored for any unlabelled virtual tape volumes.

<vid>

The volume ID number, as returned in the directory listing. This is useful for unlabelled tapes because they do not have serial numbers.

<passphrase>

Up to 20 characters used to create a unique key for encrypting a virtual volume. This same passphrase must be supplied when decrypting the virtual volume.

<OUTFILE>

The optional OUTFILE parameter specifies where the output display information is written. The default is the ODT or REMOTE terminal that invoked the utility, but this output can instead be redirected to a printer backup file or to a disk file.
