Constraints

The following constraints apply to the FILECOPY utility:

  • You can copy files from

    • Disk family

  • You can copy files to

    • Disk family

    • CD-ROM

    • Tape

  • You can wrap files into a container.

  • You can specify serial numbers of the output volumes.

  • If you are copying files to tape and you think that the information to be copied might need continuation reels, you can specify a serial number list.

  • If you are copying files to tape on a compression-capable system, you can specify the file attributes COMPRESSIONCONTROL and COMPRESSIONREQUESTED.

  • You can copy files by using their file names and directory names, and the dates of their creation, access, update, or expiration.

  • When the destination kind is DISK, ensure that you have the necessary privilege to create the destination files.

FILECOPY does not apply family substitution when it searches for and selects the disk files to be copied. However, all input and output files used or created by FILECOPY are affected by family substitution. For FILECOPY runs that do not use family substitution, output files are created on the family on which FILECOPY resides, unless you request that the files be created on another family.
