Operational Information for GUARDFILE

The text and examples that follow in this section describe the basic functions of the GUARDFILE utility. This discussion is not meant to include all the access rules you can define through the GUARDFILE utility.

  • When a file is protected by a guard file, the system examines the access rules in the guard file to determine the access to the protected file.

  • To protect a file with a guard file, you must either assign GUARDED (or CONTROLLED) to the SECURITYTYPE attribute, or set the USEGUARDFILE flag in the SECURITYMODE attribute and set <guard file title> to the SECURITYGUARD file attribute.

  • The file specified in <guard file title> must be of FILEKIND GUARDFILE before it can function as a guard file.
