Hardware Requirements

CD-R Drives

CD-R drives are supported on MCP systems that use a SCSI channel (or emulate a SCSI channel) on the connection to the CD-R drive. Systems that use SCSI DLPs or emulate SCSI DLPs do not use CD-R drives. CD-R drives can be used on all CS, LX, and NX systems.

The MCP only supports the use of drives that conform to the SCSI-2 specification and the SCSI-3 MMC extensions. Some drives might claim to support MMC, but do not fully conform to this specification. In this case, the drive might be totally unusable or some features might not work well. The packet write option is one feature that does not work on all current drives.

CD-RW Drives

CD-RW drives are supported in the same environments as CD-R drives. The functionality is identical except for one enhancement. Previously written CD-RW media in CD-RW drives can be erased using the PG (Purge) system command.

For more information about the PG system command, refer to the System Commands Operations Reference Manual.
